Ki-Jana Hoever surely next to depart Wolves after latest transfer update

Ki-Jana Hoever has had a tough time since returning to Wolves after his series of loan spells.

The right-back spent time at PSV, Stoke City and Auxerre between 2022-25 as he looked to prove to the Old Gold side that he was ready for the first team.

His efforts in France were rewarded this summer, when he was made part of the first team under Vitor Pereira.

However, so far this campaign, Wolves have been dreadful, with Hoever contributing to the Old Gold side’s bleak start.

Now, with the January transfer window around the corner, the right-back could be set for an exit.

Wolves set to target a right-back in January

Wolves are in a tricky situation in January.

The Black Country side are all but relegated after just two points from their first 17 matches.

Rob Edwards’ appointment at Wolves is not working, with the manager losing every game since his arrival from Middlesbrough.

Nevertheless, signings could still be made in January as the Old Gold side begins preparations for the Championship.

According to Sky Sports on 22 December, one position Edwards is set to target is at right-back.

As it stands, Wolves have three players who can play in this position, including Hoever.

Given that Jackson Tchatchoua only moved to Molineux in the summer, and Matt Doherty can fill in at centre-back, Hoever seems a logical departure to reduce the numbers on this side.

On top of this, the former Liverpool star is out of contract in the summer, meaning that Wolves may look to cash in on the 23-year-old before he departs for nothing.

Therefore, Hoever’s departure almost feels inevitable as Wolves look to avoid Derby’s record-low Premier League points tally.

Where has it gone wrong for Ki-Jana Hoever this season?

Last season, Hoever had a fairly successful campaign at Auxerre as he helped the French outfit finish 11th in Ligue 1, making 29 appearances across the league season.

However, in this campaign, the full-back has been woeful, and has been regularly part of a backline that is leaking goals week in, week out.

According to Fotmob on 22 December, Hoever’s inability to provide an attacking threat is a big concern, creating just 1.05 chances and an 0.08 xA per game.

Passing accuracy 68.8%
Dispossessed 0.63

Aerial duels won 50%
Recoveries 3.36
Hoever has been awful for Wolves this season

On top of this, he is defensively poor, winning 50 per cent of his aerial duels, while just making 3.36 recoveries per game.

As a result, it may be best for all parties to part ways in January, with a fresh start clearly needed.
