Celtic winger James Forrest has claimed that he is enjoying the best season of his footballing career so far, after he was one of the four nominated players to be named as Scotland’s player of the year.

The list was revealed on PFA Scotland’s Twitter account earlier, and sees Forrest on a four man shortlist along with Hoops team-mate Scott Brown, Hibernian’s John McGinn and Kilmarnock’s Kris Boyd.

Forrest, who has scored 17 goals so far this season, has admitted that he is delighted to have taken his game after his good performances last season.

“I think I’ve grown in confidence from last season and kicked on this year,” he said, as quoted by STV Sport.

“Definitely on a personal note it’s been my best season and I just want to keep contributing to the team, score more goals and keep creating.”

The player has been in a bit of a form slump in recent weeks, but his performances for the majority of the season have shown that he is thoroughly deserving of a place on the four man list.

Football Insider verdict

Forrest has been excellent for the Hoops for the majority of the season, and it is his goalscoring ability which has taken his game onto a new level. Whist previously he had never even reached double figures in goals for a season, this season he is almost at 20 goals. Whilst he has been in a bit of a form slump recently, the player has been one of the Hoops’ star players this season, and Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the player can return to his best form by the end of the season, as he could be the player that helps the Bhoys clinch the treble, he would be more than deserving of that after such an excellent season.
