Kieran Maguire issues ‘huge’ claim as Newcastle backed to become ‘mothership’ of new project
Newcastle United could partner with clubs from South America and Europe if they become the “mothership” of a multi-club network.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Amanda Staveley’s recent comments on Newcastle adopting a multi-club ownership model.
As quoted by The Guardian earlier this month (March 2), Newcastle chief Staveley stated that the Magpies ownership is interested in a multi-club option.

Staveley said they were “looking at another structure” that would allow “more opportunity to work with a lot more clubs.”
Man City are part of a similar ownership model in the City Football Group, with the Premier League club the founding member of the network that now spans four continents with 11 different clubs.
Maguire believes Newcastle could be the mothership of a new network but insists that having a consistent culture across all clubs is a “huge factor”.
“In terms of the adoption of the multi-club ownership model, there is a lot to be said about targeting South America,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Newcastle have bought players from there historically and it is a potentially lucrative market but also a high-risk market given the way that some clubs are controlled.
“There is also a good case for having a European option for Newcastle as it could be used as a parking space.
“Newcastle could use it as a place for players they want to bring to the club but don’t yet qualify or satisfy the GBE points system.

“A huge factor in a multi-club network is to have a consistent culture in order to reduce the acclimatisation costs in terms of bringing a player to Newcastle.
“That is assuming that Newcastle will be the mothership club of this multi-club project.“
