Kieran Maguire makes ‘huge’ claim after Newcastle chief Staveley confirms talks with three clubs
Newcastle United represent “huge opportunities” for PIF and were a more attractive takeover prospect than other European clubs.
So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks from Magpies director Amand Staveley.
The consortium that completed a £305million takeover of Newcastle last month was previously linked with several other European clubs.

As quoted by The Telegraph on 13 November, Staveley admitted: “We talked to Inter Milan, AC Milan and briefly looked at Bordeaux.”
Maguire suggested some of the reasons why the Staveley’s consortium ultimately settled on Newcastle and persisted until the deal was done.
“There are some huge opportunities at Newcastle,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“First of all, it’s a one-club city, so all the focus within the city is on Newcastle.
“Secondly, the revenues in the Premier League are higher than in Serie A or elsewhere. So there is further upside with Newcastle.
“Inter Milan are already a significant revenue earner, but what Newcastle offer is opportunity.
“Amanda Staveley has seen what happened at Man City. It was so transformative.
“To take a club from the mid-tier in the Premier League to one that is now pre-eminent is impressive.

“She was involved with Man City a little bit, and I’m sure she’d like to replicate that success on the pitch with Newcastle United.
“While Inter Milan is much higher up in the money league, Newcastle could potentially overtake them.”
