Kieran Maguire reveals Nottingham Forest cost of sacking Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest will have to pay Steve Cooper a seven-figure compensation package if they decide to sack him.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that sacking Cooper will not affect Forest’s January budget too much.

Cooper finds himself under huge pressure following a poor start to the season with Forest sitting 16th in the Premier League – just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Forest have suffered four consecutive league defeats in recent weeks, with the latest coming via their 5-0 defeat to Fulham on Wednesday (6 December).

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that Cooper has told friends that he expects to be sacked by Forest soon.

As reported by Sky Sports, Forest are expected to sack the 43-year-old if they suffer a fifth successive defeat against Wolves.

Maguire believes Forest’s budget will not be affected by Cooper’s sacking, but they still face an issue when it comes to offloading players in January.

I don’t think Cooper’s sacking will be an issue as far as Marinakis is concerned,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

He’s got a history of sacking managers.

Steve Cooper will be appropriately rewarded if he is sacked at Forest, but we are not talking about tens of millions.

The compensation package will be a decent seven-figure sum in all probability.

That in itself is not going to rock the boat in regards to Forest’s budget for January and their ability to compete in the transfer market.

“I think there is more of an issue in them getting rid of players before adding new signings as their squad is very large at present.
