Kieran Maguire reveals Nottingham Forest special plan to overcome points deduction – Everton are key
Nottingham Forest will use ‘all potential avenues’ to delay their PSR hearing until after Everton’s appeal is complete.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest’s legal team will be working behind the scenes to delay a points deduction this season.
Forest were charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules earlier this month following the release of their 2022-23 financial accounts.
They face a hearing in front of an independent panel and risk a points deduction similar to Everton if found guilty.
The Toffees are currently in the process of appealing their 10-point deduction handed to them in November.
Maguire believes Forest will want to delay and let Everton’s appeal set a precedent before entering their own trial.
“From what I know, Forest’s legal team will be using all of the potential avenues to reduce the chance of a points deduction this season,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“That’s what your legal advisors normally want to do because there is uncertainty about Everton’s case and therefore in theory there is uncertainty over the clarity of the rules.

“The Everton case is setting a precedent in terms of what an appropriate points deduction is.
“From the perspective of Forest, if Everton do reduce their points deduction to say three or four points and Forest get hit with a seven or eight-point deduction you can understand them feeling aggrieved.“
