Kieran Maguire reveals whether Nottingham Forest will appeal points deduction decision
There is a “70 per cent chance” that Nottingham Forest will appeal the decision of their four-point deduction.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest likely wouldn’t appeal if their deduction was only three points.
Forest were found guilty by an independent commission on Monday (18 March) of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Their allowable losses were £61million over a three-year period but they have breached the limit by £34.5million.
Forest were handed an initial six-point deduction for the severity of their breach which was reduced down to four due to their compliance in the investigation.
Nottingham Forest appeal is now likely – Kieran Maguire
Maguire explained that Forest’s disappointment comes from the commission not taking their sale of Brennan Johnson into account.
“I have a suspicion that had it been two or three points taken away then they probably would have decided to not appeal,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“We await that decision.
“But I would probably say that there’s a 70 percent chance that they will now appeal the initial deduction.
“Forest will claim in their mitigation that they were always trying to sell Brennan Johnson and that was part of the evidence that they gave to the commission.

“They will point out that they would have had to sell him at a discount before the 30th of June.“
“That wouldn’t have been good from a sustainability point of view, although it would have meant that they would have satisfied the PSR rules so you can understand their disappointment.“
