Kieran Maguire shreds Daniel Levy after Harry Kane’s Tottenham exit
Daniel Levy’s ‘hardball approach’ to transfer business has left Tottenham with a ‘gaping hole’ in their squad.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the impact of Kane’s departure on Spurs.
Kane completed a £100million move to the German giants on Saturday (12 August) after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.
The 30-year-old became the club’s all-time top goalscorer during his time in North London but was sold to the Bundesliga champions after he informed Tottenham that he wouldn’t sign a new contract at the club.
Kane’s departure was announced just 24 hours before Tottenham’s opening Premier League fixture against Brentford on Sunday afternoon, giving Ange Postecoglou no time to replace the club’s talisman striker.
Maguire questioned Levy’s transfer tactics and believes the Spurs chairman is still yet to prove to fans that he can make the right decisions for on-pitch matters.
“Daniel Levy is fairly famed for his hardball approach to player negotiations,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“No one is surprised at the Kane saga given his reluctance to budge from the prices he is looking for.
“However, with the Kane deal now finalised it leaves a gaping hole in Tottenham’s squad.
“Others have said that Tottenham are the “Harry Kane team” and I think it can be argued that without Kane the opportunities to build the new stadium wouldn’t have been as advanced.
“Levy has still got to prove to the fanbase that he can get things right on the pitch.

“He is excellent with off-pitch matters but he needs to realise that there is a balance of things that fans expect.
“Given that Spurs fans are expected to pay premium prices, they could argue that they are not getting a premium product in return and Kane’s departure strengthens that argument.”
