Kieran Tripper reacts to heartbroken message from Leicester ace Conor Coady

Newcastle star Kieran Trippier reacted to a message from Conor Coady after Leicester were relegated from the Premier League.

Following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment in late November, the Foxes were in a good position to survive relegation, sitting 16th in the table.

However, since then, the Dutchman’s side has managed just two wins in 20 Premier League games, and last scored at the King Power Stadium on 8 December 2024.

A 2-2 draw with Brighton in their previous matches sparked hopes that the Foxes would go down swinging, but a goal from Real Madrid target Trent Alexander-Arnold gave Liverpool a comfortable 1-0 win over Leicester on Sunday (20 April), confirming the Midlands side’s relegation.

Conor Coady sends message to Leicester fans after defeat

Following the loss to the soon-to-be champions of England, Coady shared a message to Leicester fans on Instagram, captioned: “Yesterday was a day I’ve never wanted to experience but the reality is as a team and as a club we haven’t been good enough from the very first minute of the season.

“This league is unforgiving when you are not at the level and we’ve felt that first hand, what matters now is putting the club in the best place possible for what is a huge summer and one thing is for sure is that you fans will drag the club through it like you have done before”.

Coady’s England teammate and Newcastle star, Trippier, liked the post, showing support for the former Wolves man.

Leicester face difficult rebuild this summer

Football Insider Verdict

Leicester’s relegation brings with it major concerns about the club’s ability to rebuild this summer.

Southampton have been far worse this season, but whilst their squad has failed to cope with the rigours of Premier League football, the Saints hold several high-value players who can be sold to fund a rebuild next season.

Tyler Dibling is a target for Man City, and whilst the South Coast are unlikely to get the £100million price tag they have placed on their young star, a large fee will still accompany his departure from St Mary’s.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are set to go down with a young manager who has proven himself capable of achieving promotions and will benefit tactically from a season in the Premier League.

It would be a shock to see Leicester stick with Van Nistelrooy, as their squad lacks high-profile players who hold much value.

The Foxes find themselves in a precarious position, and whilst they won’t go down in 20th place in the Premier League, they do look like the least-equipped side to make an immediate return to the big time next season.
