Kieran Trippier and Chuba Akpom react to Callum Wilson’s ‘amazing’ Newcastle message

Callum Wilson’s Newcastle future is very much up in the air, and the striker’s recent social media post caught the attention of Kieran Trippier and Chuba Akpom.

The veteran forward has been at St James’ Park since 2020, scoring 49 goals in all competitions across his five seasons at the club.

However, it has been an injury-hit campaign for the 33-year-old, who didn’t manage to find the net at all in the league during his 18 appearances.

Newcastle lost 1-0 to Everton on the final day of the Premier League season, but results elsewhere meant that Eddie Howe’s side secured Champions League qualification.

Wilson set to leave

With the former England international out of contract in the summer, it is expected that he will be leaving the Magpies.

Wilson has been linked with Leeds, as Daniel Farke begins building his squad for their upcoming Premier League campaign.

Despite the rumours, the former Bournemouth striker took to social media to reflect on what was a successful season for Newcastle.

In a post on Instagram, Wilson shared a photo of himself clapping the St James’ Park crowd, with the caption reading: “S24/25. Champions League football back at this amazing club.”

Magpies teammate Trippier liked the post to show his support, as did former Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom, who now plays his football for French side Lille.

Football Insider Verdict

With Wilson on his way out, Newcastle are interested in Liam Delap of Ipswich, although the youngster is being followed by a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Magpies will be hoping that they can keep hold of Alexander Isak, amid interest from Arsenal, but if the Swede does stay, it may close the door on any potential move for Delap.

On the flanks, Newcastle are also targeting Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, after the Ghanaian scored 11 goals this season.

However, with Anthony Gordon linked with Liverpool, Semenyo may be coming in as a replacement, rather than just to provide depth.

With Howe’s side securing Champions League football next season, they will need to ensure they have a sufficient squad size to compete on multiple fronts.
