Kieran Trippier: Newcastle announcement sparks exodus fears as star names could follow

Kieran Trippier is set to leave Newcastle United at the end of the season but may not be the final big name departure from St James’ Park.

The 35-year-old has confirmed he will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract, while both Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are attracting interest in moves away.

There are also concerns about the likes of Dan Burn and Fabian Schar, both of whom are aging, which have led to suggestions a defensive overhaul could be on the cards.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Trippier’s departure could kickstart a number of summer exits from Eddie Howe’s side.

This comes ahead of a busy summer for Newcastle after what has been a disappointing season so far, with major exits potentially adding to their struggles.

Newcastle United exits spark new exodus fears

Brown told Football Insider on 3 April that Newcastle are fearing major departures this summer, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes attracting interest.

Should the Magpies miss out on qualification for any European competition come the end of the season, notably the Champions League, they could lose players.

Newcastle United could lose a number of key players.

Trippier’s departure has kickstarted those concerns given the lack of depth at the back which could leave Newcastle in trouble if further exits are agreed.

“Trippier might be the first of many to leave Newcastle,” Brown told Football Insider.

“If you go through the team, especially in defence, they’ve got so many players whose futures are uncertain for all difference reasons.

“Both Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are well into their thirties and won’t have long left at this level, especially not as part of the starting XI.

“The two full-backs, Livramento and Hall, may well be on their way out because you’ve got a lot of the bigger clubs keeping an eye on them.

“The goalkeeping situation is going to be an issue as well. There’s always talk about Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in midfield, will they be sold?

“Anthony Gordon is being linked to Liverpool again, could that finally happen?

“So with Trippier already on his way out, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see others follow him, and that could become a very big issue for Newcastle.”

Where could Kieran Trippier go after leaving Newcastle?

After the news broke that Trippier would be leaving Newcastle, a number of clubs have been tipped to move to bring him in as a free agent.

Football Insider revealed on 7 April that Trippier is likely to move abroad and could turn down offers from English clubs in favour of pursuing a move elsewhere.

Sources say he is on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs who believe his quality and experience would add significantly to their squads.

However, it is said he would prefer to take on a new challenge, with a move to the MLS or the Saudi Pro League likely to be preferred as things stand.

He previously spent time abroad when he played for Atletico Madrid between 2019 and 2022, and that could be on the cards for him again this summer.
