Kieran Trippier responds to Conor Gallagher’s message amid Newcastle transfer rumours

Kieran Trippier has responded to a new message from Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher amid rumours that he could join his England teammate on Tyneside this summer.

Gallagher emerged through Chelsea’s academy to make 95 appearances for their first team from 2022 to 2024 after impressive loan spells with both West Brom and Crystal Palace.

Atletico Madrid signed Gallagher from the Blues for a £34million [The Guardian] fee last summer after he was told he was not in Enzo Maresca’s plans, and the England international enjoyed a decent first season in Spain with 50 appearances made in all competitions.

He did only make 19 league starts though, and former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 10 July that Newcastle are interested in Gallagher amid uncertainty over whether he wants to stay with Atletico and battle for a spot in the starting eleven.

Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Aston Villa and Everton are also interested in Gallagher, and Diego Simeone’s side have placed a £50m price-tag on his head this summer.

Gallagher shares new update away from Atletico Madrid

Gallagher remains an Atletico player for now, but rumours around his future are bound to keep circulating with the new La Liga season not starting for another month.

They will have given their players more time off after recently competing in the Club World Cup, and Gallagher took to Instagram on Thursday (17 July) to provide an update on what he has been doing during his break alongside the caption: “Calm evenings in St.Tropez.”

Newcastle right-back Trippier liked his post, in a move that is bound to stir up speculation, while other players such as Reece James, Julian Alvarez, Dom Solanke and Ben Chilwell all followed suit.

Newcastle should sign Gallagher amid potential midfield exits

Football Insider verdict

Gallagher seems like the perfect signing for a club like Newcastle, as he is homegrown, has a wealth of experience at club and international level, and still has time on his side at 25-years-old.

The box-to-box midfielder would also definitely suit Eddie Howe’s all-action, high pressing style of play, and it seems as if the Magpies are preparing to bring a player like him in based off their current transfer business and potential exits.

Gallagher’s Premier League career stats

Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is nearing a move to Leeds United, and fellow back-up player Joe Willock is being targeted by Crystal Palace with an exit likely, as revealed to Football Insider by former scout Brown.

Brown has also recently told Football Insider that Gallagher is open to a move back to the Premier League amid interest from the aforementioned three sides, and Newcastle are in a more appealing position than both Villa and Everton this summer, while they will need to replace Longstaff and Willock if they both leave.

It certainly feels like changes are afoot in the middle of the park for Magpies boss Howe, and Gallagher would be a very shrewd capture as they look to progress on all fronts next season.
