Klopp responds to reports Liverpool in advanced talks to sign up £150,000-a-week ace

Jurgen Klopp has remained tight-lipped over a reported new deal for Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana.

The Telegraph claimed earlier this week that the Merseysiders are in advanced talks with Lallana’s representatives over a £150,000-a-week contract that he will “shortly” sign.

However, speaking ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Tottenham, Klopp decided not to reveal any further details on how close Lallana is to signing a new deal with the Merseyside giants.

“Adam is a very important player for us,” Klopp said, as quoted on the Twitter account of Liverpool Echo correspondent James Pearce. “How close is (new contract)? We don’t talk about that.”

Lallana’s importance in Klopp’s side has continued to grow throughout the season as he continues to provide a creative spark in the German’s side.

During his 26 league and cup appearances this season, Lallana has had a hand in 14 goals. Scoring seven of them, the former Southampton ace has also provided seven assists.

After Klopp tied down Philippe Coutinho, Lallana was said to be next on the list in a deal that will see him match the Brazilian’s pay cheque and become the club’s joint highest-paid player.

Liverpool’s number 20 is expected to start for the Reds on the weekend, as Klopp looks to secure his first league win of 2017 and put a dismal run of just one win in 10 games behind him.

They will face a tough test against a resurgent Tottenham, who have won nine times out of their last 11 league and cup outings.

In other Liverpool news, Dietmar Hamann has claimed the season will end in disappointment if the Reds do not achieve this.
