Koeman: This area will be key in Everton v Tottenham clash

By Dominic Toner

Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes that the midfield area will be key if they are to win their game against Tottenham.

The Toffees travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday for a Premier League match and will be looking to continue their push towards the top six.

The Merseyside club are making a late surge towards the European spots and are unbeaten in their last nine games in the league.

Meanwhile, Spurs are second-placed in the league table and are set to be an incredibly tough test on their own patch.

Koeman has highlighted the midfield battle as a crucial area of the patch and believes it could have an outcome on the result.

“It will be a battle on Sunday. It will be key to win the midfield battle,” Koeman said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Koeman has settled on a midfield trio of Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies and Idrissa Gueye recently, who bring a great balance of attacking and defensive discipline.

They have dominated opponents during their winning run and have the great cover with Schneiderlina and Gueye, while emerging youngster Davies provides the energy.

However, they are set to line-up against two powerhouses in the Spurs midfield, with Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama the preferred combination.

Box-to-box midfielder Dembele is regarded as one of the strongest players in the division and Wanyama is used to protect the defence.
