Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons has heavily criticised Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty for his performance in the Gers’ Scottish Cup semi-final loss to the Hoops, in a match which ended 4-0 to the Hoops.
Commons felt that the 21-year-old and his fellow midfielders Graham Dorrans and Andy Halliday did not do enough to close down the Hoops midfielders.
Tom Rogic was given plenty of space to give the Hoops the lead, whilst Callum McGregor was afforded acres of space to double the Hoops’ lead just before half-time.
Commons was scathing of the role played by the Gers midfield in the Hoops’ goals.
“Docherty, you’ve got three midfielders just looking…you cannot have that scenario. Absolutely picking up nobody,” Commons said during Sky Sports’ coverage of the semi-final (15/04: 14:15).
Docherty joined the Ibrox side in the January transfer window from Hamilton for a fee of of around £600,000, and the youngster has made a decent start to life at Ibrox, and has become a regular for the Ibrox side, but like most of his team-mates he didn’t have the best of games at Hampden.
Docherty and the rest of his team-mates will have the chance to make up for their poor display when they travel to Celtic Park in a fortnight, but before that the Gers take on Hearts at Ibrox as they aim to pick up the pieces from the Hampden loss.
