Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer believes that in-form winger James Forrest can fire Celtic to Europa League victory over Zenit.
The Bhoys face the Russian outfit in the first leg in Glasgow on Thursday, and Ajer’s claims that if Forrest – who scored a hat-trick in the recent 3-2 victory over Partick – is on his game then the Hoops may well triumph.
“James has been brilliant the whole season. Scoring three goals proves how good a player he is,” the Norwegian said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“Will we have a chance if he reproduces on Thursday? Yeah.”
Forrest is currently in the midst of the best season of his career so far, with the hat-trick against Partick taking his goal tally for the season to 16, only one behind top scorer Scott Sinclair.
He has excelled in Europe as well, scoring the vital winning goal against Rosenborg in the Champions League qualifiers and turning in a man of the match performance against Bayern Munich in the group stages.
The Hoops will need to improve their home form if they are to stand a chance of defeating Zenit, as they lost all three home Champions League group stages matches this season.
Ajer is set to start against Zenit after recovering from an injury suffered against Kilmarnock, and he may well be paired up in central defence with recent signing from Dundee Jack Hendry.
