La Liga expert issues two-word verdict on Arsenal potentially signing Marco Asensio
Kevin Campbell has poured cold water on the idea of Arsenal signing Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, suggested the 26-year-old would not get the game time he wants at the Emirates.
Asensio’s future is up in the air as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the Bernabeu.
According to the Mirror (11 June), Mikel Arteta’s side are one of a number of clubs monitoring the attacking midfielder’s situation in the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid will look to sell Asensio in this window if they fail to agree on a new contract rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
When asked by Football Insider if Asensio was needed at the Emirates with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukaya Saka already at the club, Campbell issued two words: “Not really.
“I don’t see much sense in that one if I am honest.
“Asensio is a very good player. He has been an excellent squad player at Real Madrid. Whenever he has come in he has done a job. He has not let anybody down.

“He knows where the goal is and has a sweet left foot.
“I don’t see where he is going to fit in at Arsenal though. For me, that one will amount to nothing more. I can’t see him coming.”
