La Liga expert issues verdict on Mohamed Salah quitting Liverpool for Real Madrid after £244m deal is done
Real Madrid will not try and lure Mohamed Salah from Liverpool after missing out on Kylian Mbappe, according to Kevin Campbell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal striker and La Liga TV pundit claimed Salah is too old for Real Madrid who will want to sign a “galactico” who can shine for the next six years.
Mbappe, 23, turned down a move to Real Madrid and signed a new three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain last week (21 May).
Sky Sports reported the same day that the striker will earn a whopping £244million, including a £100million signing on fee, over the course of the new contract.
Salah has just over a year left on his Liverpool contract but Campbell is not convinced Real Madrid will want to sign him despite Mbappe’s decision leaving a void.
He told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs: “They wanted a galactico, didn’t they?
“I think there’s now a big possibility that Real Madrid will want to appease the fans by bringing someone in of note.
“Sometimes the difficulty is Mbappe is young, he is someone who you can sign on a four, five six-year deal and he’ll be there for years and years.
“If you sign Salah to a four or five-year deal then he’s done at the end of it. That’s it. Then you’re going to go and get someone else.

“It’s the long game that Real Madrid wanted but you cannot control everything. They thought they had Mbappe in the bag but PSG responded.
“He’s signed three years, he’ll do two years of that before looking to renegotiate. They’ve probably said ‘We’ll keep you a couple of years then you can do what you want’.”
