Frank Lampard has claimed on BT Sport that Tottenham have a “great chance” of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League after their 2-2 draw against Juventus in Turin on Tuesday night.
Spurs came from two goals down after nine minutes at the home of the Serie A champions and last season’s Champions League runners-up to secure a memorable share of the spoils with a dominant performance.
Chelsea great Lampard hailed Spurs’ personality to come back at such a daunting venue to secure precious draw and is convinced they are now a great bet to reach the next round of Europe’s elite club competition.
“They’ve given themselves a great chance and they deserve to be confident. They’ve gone to Turin, a very difficult place to go, against a very good Juventus team,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“They’ve got 70 per cent possession, created chances, held their own. That takes not only quality, but it takes personality. They’ve proved themselves to this point, now it is their chance to get into the quarter finals which will be great for the club.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have two away goals to take back to Wembley for the return leg on 7 March and are likely to start the match as slight favourites.
Juventus made a brilliant start at the Allianz Stadium as Gonzalo Higuain scored a quick-fire double in the opening nine minutes.
However, the north London club then took total control of the match on the back of Mousa Dembele’s sensational central midfield performance and restored parity with a well-taken Harry Kane goal and a Christian Eriksen free-kick.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has jetted off on a transatlantic mission to seal a sensational £20million-a-year Spurs deal.
