'Must be sold' - Newcastle fans urge Benitez to sell 27-year-old star

By Will Butcher

Newcastle fans are desperate on Twitter to see Rafa Benitez offload midfielder Jack Colback after a disappointing campaign in the Championship.

The 27-year-old midfielder is in direct competition with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Isaac Hayden for a place in the side, after being a regular in the Premier League.

However, Colback has faced criticism for his apparent inability to pass the ball forwards to a teammate, instead playing the ball backwards to his defence and taking the safe option.

The ex-Sunderland midfielder could now be sold, with Benitez likely to bring in a number of players in the summer market as the Magpies edge closer to Premier League promotion.

Newcastle fans have urged the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss to sell Colback, as they become increasingly frustrated with the flame-haired star.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Since his move from rivals Sunderland across the north east, Colback has made a total of 99 appearances in all competitions for the St. James’ Park outfit.

He could now be in line to make his 100th Toon appearance against Preston on Monday night, with three points enough to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

In other Newcastle news, Lou Macari has given his verdict on the Toon’s reported pursuit of this Stoke City star.
