Two 19-year-olds start, big-money man benched: Leeds expected XI v Sunderland

COMMENT

Leeds season is over – the only thing that remains to play for is to give manager Paul Heckingbottom a clear idea of who he wants to keep and who he wants to bin next season.

That’s why the current injury crisis isn’t such a bad thing.

The two latest to hit the sidelines are Eunan O’Kane and Matthew Pennington, who both limped out of the 2-0 defeat to Fulham in midweek.

Manager Heckingbottom said they have had scans but is planning to be without them – and for Leeds fans, losing O’Kane might be a blessing.

However, for the fans as well, the rest of the season is about pride, as well as seeing some of the talented youngsters in the Under-23s.

Heckingbottom hinted that the latest to make the jump up would be young centre-back Paudie O’Connor, with the injury to Pennington stretching him at the back.

With that in mind, Football Insider has selected the starting XI that it expects to see on the pitch at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

And it’s not good news for one of Leeds’ big-money, high-profile players.
