Lee Dixon has praised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for bringing the best out of Adam Lallana this season.
Lallana, 28, has had arguably his best season in a Liverpool shirt to date, following his move to Anfield from Southampton in 2014.
The England international has scored seven goals and supplied seven assists from 27 Premier League appearances this term.
Speaking live on ITV ahead of England’s clash with Germany, Dixon admitted he had been impressed with Lallana’s displays in Merseyside this season.
But he reserved particular praise for the Liverpool boss for his role in Lallana’s transformation, insisting that Klopp has given him the confidence to try things.
He said: “I think he is playing in a team and with a manager that really believes in him. I think at Liverpool he has that confidence to try things, and is playing in a position that really suits him.”
However, all of Lallana’s goals and assists have come during the first half of the campaign, with the period since the new year proving to be more difficult for Lallana.
He came crashing back down to earth with a glaring miss during the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, but Klopp will be pleased with his contributions over the season as a whole.
The versatile midfielder has played in a number of different roles for Liverpool this season, from attacking-midfield to a wider role, but Lallana has found particular success of late as a central midfielder.
