Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has been named in the English Football League team of the week following his impressive performance against Barnsley on the weekend.
The 26-year-old produced a fine defensive display in the Yorkshire derby as Thomas Christiansen’s side secured a much needed 2-0 victory with first-half strikes from Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski.
It was the perfect way to bounce back from the midweek 4-1 defeat against table topping Wolves at Molineux.
The result means that the Yorkshire club currently sit in eighth position just three points behind the playoff places.
Cooper was the only Leeds first-team player selected in the EFL team of the week which was revealed on their official website on Monday afternoon.
The defender has been a fixture in the Leeds starting lineup this season, making a total of 16 appearances in all competitions.
The Leeds captain has also managed to contribute with two assists in the Championship this season, in the victories against Nottingham Forest and Newport County.
Cooper has been a crucial part of the Leeds defensive set-up, helping the Whites achieve clean sheets in the league this season.
The Scotsman will be looking to continue his fine form when Leeds welcome Aston Villa to Elland Road on Friday evening.
In other Leeds United news, Football Insider has rated each Leeds out of 10 for their performance in the 2-0 Championship win over Barnsley.
