Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has claimed that Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri is one of the best players in the Championship ahead of Sunday’s Yorkshire derby clash.
The Whites travel to Hillsborough this weekend with the hope of bouncing back to winning ways following a poor defeat to Cardiff on Tuesday which saw them drop off the top spot in the league standings.
Leeds ace Jansson, 26, is fully aware of how big the clash with the Owls will be for his side and has attempted to raise the pressure on under-fire manager Carlos Carvahal before the encounter.
The Sweden international also pinpointed the dangermen who he will be looking to keep close track of in south Yorkshire on Sunday.
“It’s a derby with a lot of people and a lot of emotions. We have to be prepared for that but we have to go out from the first minute and show we want to win because that can make them a bit more scared. They have pressure on them,” he said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We also have pressure on us but there’s a bigger pressure on them because they’ve started badly. We have to go out and be relaxed and win the game. We’re going to have a plan.
“It’s a derby on their field so they will come at us from the first minute. We have to go out like 11 animals and be prepared for a war because that’s what it’s going to be.
“They’re a good team. (Fernando) Forestieri is one of the best players in the league but he’s injured and a big loss. (Steven) Fletcher is experienced and (Gary) Hooper, but of course me and the team will be prepared.”
Forestieri, 27, has barely played for Sheffield Wednesday this season due to him having an operation on a knee injury.
The attacker is extremely experienced in the Championship from spells with the Owls and previously with Watford.
He has made 154 appearances in the English second tier, scoring 47 goals and suppyling 35 assists in the process, so Jansson may be counting his lucky stars that he won’t have to deal with him at the weekend.
In other Leeds United news, a senior player has been ruled out by his manager for this weekend’s clash.
