Bielsa, the former defender, and Argentina and Chile coach, has been praised heavily by Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino, but most recently endured a short disastrous spell at Lille.
Football Insider verdict:
This is very good news for Leeds fans. Bielsa has been the name that everyone has been talking about since Paul Heckingbottom got the boot on Friday. If he’s now in advanced talks, you’d have to imagine that the big hurdles, and especially club finances, have been cleared already. The man the call ‘El Loco’ is a maverick though and could still pull out of the deal for any number of reasons, but Leeds seem very confident that they’re going to land their man. And there’s no doubt that it would represent a significant coup for the club and would prove once and for all that Andrea Radrizzani harbours serious ambitions of getting them back in the Premier League. Bielsa won’t come cheap and you’d have to hope that moving for him doesn’t mean there’s less money to spend on players. The Leeds squad is in desperate need of an overhaul and the new manager will need as much money as possible to clear out the squad and rebuild it in his image. If it’s Bielsa’s, next season could be very exciting for Leeds fans.
