Leeds backed for their own ‘Class of ’92’ after ‘poster boy’ twist – pundit
Leeds United should lean into their ‘inexperience’ this season and back their own young stars as well as recruit strikers Daniel Jebbison and Thomas Cannon.
That’s according to ex-Scotland striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, McAvennie admits that Leeds United need goals following a string of high-profile sales and believes Jebbison, 21, and Cannon, 21, could be the answer.
Leeds United are set to lose yet another star player in Georginio Rutter following the sales of Archie Gray to Tottenham and Crysencio Summerville to West Ham.
Football Insider revealed (August 15) that Rutter, 22, is heading to Brighton to undergo his medical after the Premier League club activated his £40 million release clause.
Leeds United in desperate need of adding numbers
Leeds United are in serious danger of ending the transfer window without adding the necessary numbers for a grueling Championship season but are working on new signings.
Football Insider also revealed (August 16) that the West Yorkshire club have placed Stoke City winger Million Manhoef, 22, on their list of targets.
“They need goals, they definitely need goals”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“They’ve already lost (Crysencio) Summerville and they’re going to miss him, he was their poster boy if you like last year.
“Sometimes with the young boys coming in, you unearth one or two of them.
“At 21, if you’re not ready to walk into the first team, you really should be.
“It’s a great opportunity at Leeds for the young boys and hopefully they can make a go of it.
“I know they’re inexperienced but sometimes that works, look Man United back in the day, when they had to bring in (David) Beckham and all them.

“Nicky Butt and the Nevilles (Phil & Gary), they had to bring them in because of all the injuries and look what happened with them.
“I don’t think they’ll do as well as that but they might find two or three that are decent players.”
