Sol Bamba has revealed that Mirco Antenucci is only able to produce the goods for Leeds when he is mentally “just right”.
The Italian striker scored the Championship club’s second goal as they defeated Blackburn 2-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday to secure a third consecutive league win.
Antenucci lifted his tally for the season to nine league goals with a clinical finish that reminded his manager Steve Evans of Kenny Dalglish and he has now struck four times in their last three matches to steer the team away from the relegation zone.
But Leeds skipper Bamba has made the honest admission that the 31-year-old is not always ready to deliver on match days.
Bamba told the BBC: “It was unbelievable, to finish like that is unbelievable. We know what he’s capable of. He does it in training every week.
“His head just has to be right. When he plays every week, he’s happy just like the rest of us.”
Antenucci was Leeds’ top scorer in the Championship last season and his strike at Blackburn once again takes him to the top of the charts, despite playing less league minutes than eight-goal Chris Wood.
In other Leeds news, supporters have given their view on Antenucci’s contract stalemate with the club.
