Leeds expected 4-2-3-1 v Blackburn: Striker axed in 10 changes

COMMENT By Harvey Byrne

Garry Monk could make as many as 10 changes to his Leeds side to face struggling Blackburn at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening.

The Yorkshire giants are gearing up to face Owen Coyle’s team who are currently struggling down in 23rd place in the English second tier.

Leeds’ last fixture came on Sunday where they faced non-league Sutton in the FA Cup and fell victim to a shock 1-0 defeat.

Many considered the Whites’ line-up for that clash as a weakened one and it is likely Monk will now ring the changes to ensure his side doesn’t suffer the same result in the league.

Top scorer Chris Wood is likely to reclaim the forward position in the eleven and the 25-year-old will be eager to add to his 20 goals in all competitions this season.

The return of the New Zealand international will then see striker Marcus Antonsson axed from the team after a less than impressive display against Sutton.

Meanwhile, Rob Green, Luke Ayling, Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson, Gaetano Berardi, Liam Bridcutt, Eunan O’Kane, Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez are also expected to come into the eleven.

Souleymane Doukara is the only one to keep his place in the side from Sunday, but he will be hoping to put in a better performance against Blackburn with two new wing additions on Tuesday.

The Yorkshire giants brought in Alfonso Pedraza on a reported loan-to-buy deal from La Liga giants Villarreal, while they also confirmed the late signing of Modou Barrow on loan from Swansea.

However, neither players signed in time to face Coyle’s struggling Blackburn.

Star man Charlie Taylor is also expected to remain out of the starting line-up with his last appearance for the team coming all the way back on 17 December against Brentford.

Leeds will be eager to return to winning ways against Rovers following Reading and Derby victories on Tuesday night.

They will remain in fourth place with a win themselves, but they would move to within a point of the third placed Royals, while also gaining ground on the top two, who will have games in hand at the end of the week.
