Leeds face Rangers battle as Gerrard in touch over one-in-two Liverpool forward – report
Leeds United are facing a battle to try and poach Liverpool winger Harry Wilson this summer after new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard got in touch over a loan swoop for the 21-year-old, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun state that the Anfield legend, who is leaving his coaching position with the Reds to take up the reins at Ibrox, is keen to take the forward north of the border after having worked with him at under-23 level.
He was shipped out on loan to Hull City in January, scoring at a rate of over a goal every two games with seven strikes in 13 league appearances, and is said to have a £250,000 loan fee slapped on his head.
However, Leeds are also keen on taking him on a temporary deal, as well as Huddersfield and Aston Villa, with Paul Heckingbottom looking to improve on a disappointing campaign in charge at Elland Road.
Football Insider verdict
The Rangers revolution is well and truly underway with three new signings under their belts already, and it only seemed a matter of time until Gerrard got in touch with his former side in a bid to further strengthen at Ibrox. Wilson’s record has been pretty impressive at under-23 level and he certainly showed he had the ability in England’s second tier with a good goal scoring record, despite being out on the wing every game. It is no wonder why Leeds want to snap him up and keep him in the Championship for another season but trying to convince him to move to Elland Road instead of Glasgow will be a tough ask of the Whites. The opportunity to work under Gerrard again, this time in a managerial capacity, as well as battle it out in a top division and possibly in Europe as well could well sway Wilson’s mind – not that anyone would blame him. At 21 he needs to be playing regularly to aid his development and in Gerrard he has a man he not only knows and trusts but one who will be able to get the best out of him for the club, as well as for his future.
In other Rangers news, the club are chasing a Premier League powerhouse who could be signing of the summer.
