Leeds fans explode at ‘traitor’ Georginio Rutter after what he said
Leeds United fans have been left fuming at Georgino Rutter after his latest comments about his time at Elland Road following his move to Brighton.
Speaking to BBC Sport after making his full Brighton debut against Ipswich Town (16 September), the 22-year-old shared: “When I was with Leeds, the Premier League was different.
“I didn’t play a lot and it maybe wasn’t a good moment for me. Now, it’s different. We have a good team and a good atmosphere.”
Rutter started and played 67 minutes as Fabian Hurzeler’s side drew 0-0 with their newly promoted opposition at the AMEX.
He had become a fan-favourite at Leeds during his spell in the Championship, but fans have not taken kindly to what appears to be a thinly veiled dig at the club.
The Brighton star references his arrival as Leeds’ club-record signing in January 2023, when they were battling relegation and undergoing a turbulent situation both on and off the pitch.
As a result, fans at Elland Road have been left fuming at their former star.

Following Leeds’ failure to gain promotion to the Premier League last time out Rutter was among several stars to jump ship, following many others since their relegation in 2023.
This has contributed to an ‘If you’re not with us, you’re against us’ mentality at Elland Road, with fans turning on many of the departing players.
Now, many supporters have taken offence to the forward’s comments, taking to social media as they labelled him a “traitor” and insisted he would struggle in the Premier League and was not worth the £40million price Brighton paid.
