'Done superbly', 'Massive credit' - Leeds fans change minds about once-derided senior man
By Harry Sykes
Leeds United fans have changed their minds about director of football Victor Orta after he masterminded the club’s squad transformation this summer.
Orta was the driving force behind a huge revamp of the team that finished seventh in last season’s Championship under former manager Garry Monk.
Leeds signed 16 new players in a dizzying overhaul, with the headline signings including Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Vurnon Anita, Pawel Cibicki and on-loan Pierre-Michael Lasogga.
Spaniard Orta was met with widespread criticism and indeed hostility from the majority of Leeds fans following his arrival at the end of May, within days of Andrea Radrizzani completing a full takeover.
Many questioned his track record in a similar recruitment role at Middlesbrough, who he quit to make the move to Elland Road.

But supporters have been won over by Orta and have taken to Twitter following the closure of the summer window to pay tribute to his work.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Gotta say orta and tc look like the best signings. Got us going connected us And very shrewd in the Market. Boros loss our gain. #lufc

Saiz already looks a level above this league. Radz and Orta have done superbly well to collate a young, competitive, skillfull squad #lufc

Orta has had to work with a relatively small budget compared to Championship big spenders like Wolves and Boro.
Leeds have also sold a number of mainstays under Monk, including the £15million exit of Chris Wood to Premier League outfit Burnley.
In other Leeds United transfer news, fans have reacted to confirmation that the club have secured a last-gasp agreement with a colossus by insisting there will be “limbs all over the shop”.
