Leeds United have reportedly contacted Aston Villa about signing forward Ross McCormack – and supporters on Twitter went into meltdown.
The Mail claim that the Yorkshire giants have enquired about the possibility of signing the out-of-favour Scot after he slipped down the pecking order at Villa Park.
It is said that Sunderland’s bid to sign the 30-year-old has stalled and Leeds have joined the race for their former hero.
The Elland Road faithful reacted with almost universal delight at the club’s latest transfer link as they anticipated the damage that a front line of McCormack and Chris Wood could do in the Championship.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Just saying Chris Wood and Ross McCormack would absolutely rip this league apart. #lufc

Love McCormack for essentially keeping us up all on his own but is he still good enough to contribute in a promotion/playoff push?? #lufc

McCormack’s future at Villa is up in the air after his £12.5million move from Fulham last summer turned sour.
McCormack quit Leeds in the summer of 2014 after a goal-laden four year spell in which he was one of the division’s outstanding players, scoring 58 goals and supplying 31 assists from 157 matches in all competitions.
Football Insider verdict:
McCormack’s time at Villa is up. That has been clear since he fell foul of Bruce during ‘gate-gate’ last winter, when the Scot could not make it to training. Had he been playing well, the manager might have forgiven him. But McCormack was not pulling his considerable weight on the field, and clearly not keeping in shape off it. A fresh start is what’s needed, and Villa would like to see the once-prolific forward add to his transfer value with some decent performances out on loan. A return to a club where he played some of the best football of his career makes sense. Given McCormack’s history with Leeds, this would be a sensational move but also a good one for all parties.
In other Leeds United transfer news, Football Insider can exclusively reveal that Thomas Christiansen is lining up a move for a centre-back who is highly regarded and is captain of his club.
