Leeds fans react to Jay-Roy Grot display v Sheffield Wednesday
By Richard Parks
Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to give the thumbs-up to Jay-Roy Grot’s performance for the Under-23s in their 3-2 win against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday afternoon.
Grot was named in the starting XI along with fellow first teamer Pawel Cibicki as United fielded a strong side for the Professional Development League clash at their Thorp Arch training ground headquarters.
Grot was deployed out wide and was integral to Leeds going two goals ahead early on through strikes from Cibicki.
But the Dutchman 19, broke down with an ankle problem and limped off after 62 minutes of the clash and was replaced by Alex Machuca.
United were 2-1 ahead at that point of the match and Wednesday subsequently pulled it back to 2-2 before Adrian Balboa scored the winner three minutes from time.
Grot has been criticised by fans for his first team appearances but United fans were appreciative of his efforts for the youth team.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Now Grot and Cibicki gone off we’re not getting a kick. The lad machuca, oh dear. 2-2 Hirst excellent finish. Gona lose this.

I like Grot’s touch and ability to hold the ball up.

Grot off with a knock. Might explain why he plays wide right. I think I’m giving up on that one. Sorry.

Same here. Don’t see it. He seems completely unwilling to use anything he has to his advantage – size, speed etc.

at the time he joined one of the Dutch Leeds fans said Grot was a winger but I think we all ignored it and just thought look at the huge bloke stick him up front !

Cibicki, Grot and Buoy ahould be regulars in the first team lineup. Shocking by Higginbottom and TCbefore him to be honest.

The nature of the injury suffered by Grot has not been confirmed although supporters watching a live stream of the match suggested he could have suffered an ankle problem.
The Dutchman has struggled to make an impact for Leeds since joining last summer as part of a massive squad overhaul.
Grot has made 16 senior appearances, most of them as a substitute, but has yet to open his Leeds scoring account.
