Leeds fans react to Shaughnessy display against Fulham
By Harry Sykes
Conor Shaughnessy was a shock starter for Leeds United in their 0-0 draw at home to Fulham on Tuesday night – and fans took to Twitter to hail the youngster.
The versatile defender, 21, was handed his full league debut at centre-back alongside Pontus Jansson after Liam Cooper joined Matthew Pennington on the injury list.
Shaughnessy was part of a Leeds side that overcame an explosive start from the visiting side to hold firm and eventually take a semblance of control before securing a share of the points.
The Elland Road faithful were blown away by the assuredness of the young Irishman, who has been promoted to the first-team squad since Thomas Christiansen took over as manager.

At the moment struggling to see why Reading released Shaughnessy. He looked very good last night and looks to have lots of potential. #Lufc

Shaughnessy’s preferred position is midfield. Been seldom acknowledged, so I’ll put it put there. #lufc

2 appearances for Shaughnessy. Gave away a penalty in one and broke Piazon’s leg tonight. Quite the start. He looked good tonight for #lufc

Special praise reserved for Shaughnessy, a young lad who TC fancies very much was superb tonight, tackling and his passing were great. #lufc

There or thereabouts. #lufc needed another centre half but think Shaughnessy based on tonight (only one game I know) could be that man

It was Shaughnessy’s third appearance for Leeds in all competitions since he was released by Reading last summer.
The defender was a substitute in the opening-day win at Bolton before playing the full 90 minutes of the League Cup demolition of Port Vale last week.
But his full league debut has provided the starkest evidence yet that he could be a major player for Leeds this season.
In other Leeds United transfer news, Football Insider can exclusively reveal that Thomas Christiansen is lining up a move for a centre-back who is highly regarded and is captain of his club.
