'A man transformed' - Leeds fans react as 25-year-old wins player of the year award

By Danny Wright

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to congratulate Chris Wood for winning the club’s player of the year award.

The Yorkshire club announced the news on their official Twitter account on Sunday.

The 25-year-old is also likely to scoop the Championship’s top goal scorer award, having scored 26 goals in the competition this season – three more than his nearest rival Tammy Abraham.

Wood arrived at Elland Road in 2015 from Leciester, and the striker has wasted no time in getting settled at the club by firing them up the standings to mount a serious bid to finish in the play-offs.

The 47-times New Zealand international got himself on the score sheet in the 3-3 draw with Norwich on Saturday, but Leeds’ chances of a top-six finish were all-but ended with the stalemate.

Fans were delighted to see their goal scoring hero grab the award and want him to sign a new deal club.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Wood has scored 29 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions for Leeds this season and will be able to reach the 30-goal milestone in the final fixture of the campaign at Wigan next week.

Garry Monk’s side can theoretically still finish in the play-off places, but it would take a near miracle to topple sixth-placed Fulham, who have a huge goal difference advantage to go with their three point lead.
