Brighton suffered a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle on Tuesday night – and Leeds fans on Twitter were delighted that their promotion rivals dropped points.

Glenn Murray opened the scoring for the Seagulls after 14 minutes when he successfully converted his spot kick.

It was a lackluster display from Rafa Benitez’ men for the majority of the game as the Spaniard opted to play no striker during the game.

Prior to forward Ayoze Perez coming on in the 82nd minutes, midfielder Mo Diame’s lucky shot hit the underside of the crossbar to level the scores.

Thereafter, substitute Perez did brilliantly to slot home the winner with a minute left on the clock.

As a result, Benitez’ side top the table on 73 points from their 34 matches, two points ahead of Brighton, who are ten points ahead of fourth-placed Leeds.

One Elland Road supporter stated that he hopes Brighton now go on a losing streak and hopes his team can sneak into the automatic places.

Furthermore, one fan explained how the scenario will play out by saying Brighton will lose on the last day of the season, only for the Whites to beat Wigan and snatch second spot.

Chris Hughton’s side take on Nottingham Forest and rock-bottom Rotherham in the next two matches and one fan believes those games means catching Brighton is now very unlikely.
