Leeds hammer blow as Christiansen delivers injury update ahead of clash v Cardiff
Thomas Christiansen delivered an update on the Conor Shaughnessy injury in his pre-match press conference on Friday and it wasn’t good news for the centre-back.
The 21-year-old defender lasted only five minutes in the game against Hull in midweek before being stretchered off.
He had come back into the team after Liam Cooper was out suspended and Matthew Pennington was out with injury.
With no cover, Gaetano Berardi was forced into covering the centre-back position, with Stuart Dallas slotting in at right back.
Now, ahead of the game against Cardiff on Saturday, Christiansen has revealed that the injury is serious.
Asked when Shaughnessy might be back he replied, as quoted by Leeds Live, “Yeah, he will be several months… weeks out.
“We will see next week because it was very inflamed and there were some ligaments touched but we need to see it exactly next week when the inflammation has gone.”
Fans will be hoping that the player isn’t out for months, although the news that his injury is still inflamed will be worrying.
Christiansen said that he thought the club had enough centre backs and that when everyone was back from suspension or injury they would be fine.
In the meantime though, it looks like Pennington will be available for the Championship game with Cardiff on Saturday.
