Leeds handed 'unbelievable' Bamford blow after 'massive' reveal - Whelan
Patrick Bamford’s fresh injury blow is a “massive disappointment” for Leeds United, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old is “desperately” missed – with Marcelo Bielsa’s side “less ruthless” without his presence.
According to Bielsa (via Leeds Live) Bamford was set to take part in Leeds United’s FA Cup third round loss against West Ham on Sunday (9 January).
However, the Argentine revealed that the England international had suffered a “knock underneath his hip” in training and was subsequently ruled out.
Whelan claimed Leeds United have suffered an “unbelievable” run of bad luck with injuries this term.
“It’s another massive disappointment,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think we were all hoping he was going to get some minutes in the cup against West Ham ahead of a potential start in the league game.
“But it’s just so unfortunate. We seem to be having an unbelievable run of bad luck with injuries this season, and it just keeps getting worse.
“Yes, we have got players back – but we desperately need Patrick fit again. We need someone in that area because it’s all a bit lacklustre without him.
“We’re just that bit less ruthless without him. If he was playing in that West Ham game, I think he would have had a couple of goals from balls which fell kindly for Jack Harrison and Dan James.”
Bamford has played just 22 minutes of Premier League football since 17 September.
The Leeds United hitman has suffered hamstring and ankle problems this term.
Bielsa’s side face another trip to the London Stadium this Saturday.
