Kinnear confirms Leeds working on multiple deals with ‘exciting’ news imminent
Leeds United MD Angus Kinnear has confirmed that his club are working on a number of quality transfers after a disappointing last season.
Leeds finished 13th in the Championship after a campaign that started off brightly, and manager Thomas Christiansen was sacked after a string of bad results.
Replacement Paul Heckingbottom didn’t stop the rot though and Leeds’ slump continued.
Talking on talkSPORT, Kinnear said: “Our scouting network, like most good teams, is global; you have to look at the global marketplace.
“Last year we were clear in the areas we came up short, and I think there’s a need for people who have been proven in the league and proven in the UK, and so we’re looking near and we’re looking far to secure the best talent.”
Asked whether any deals were close, Kinnear said: “We’re working on them.
“As soon as the season tailed off plans for next season were already in place, and we are well advanced in lots of areas. So hopefully there should be some good and exciting news soon.”
Football Insider verdict:
Finally, some positive transfer news for Leeds fans who have had to contend with lots of conjecture so far, but very little in the way of concrete information. Leeds need to overhaul their squad dramatically, and announced investment from American football club San Francisco 49ers earlier on Thursday. One Insider said that could be worth as much as £15million. That, coupled with Kinnear’s comments should give hope that some new players are just around the corner. Kinnear has said that Leeds are looking fro proven UK and Championship talent, which could indicate Abel Hernandez, who most Leeds fans would love to see at Elland Road. Leeds need minimum a quality striker capable of scoring 20+ goals in a season, another centre-back and a centre midfielder. If they keep their stars from last year, like Samu Saiz, and add players like Tyler Roberts and Yosuke Ideguchi – admittedly relatively unknown but promising talents – then they could end up with the basis of a squad that could challenge for the play-offs.
