Leeds make bid for Dutch striker after reported Gestede interest - reliable journalist

By Harry Sykes

Leeds have made a bid for 19-year-old Dutch striker Jay-Roy Grot, according to a reliable journalist.

Phil Hay, who works for the Yorkshire Evening Post, released the news on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon.

In the tweet he also said that the club’s interest in Rudy Gestede is genuine.

That follows on from a tweet from the Deputy Editor of Sport on the Guardian, Ed Aarons, who said the Yorkshire club had tabled a £6m bid for Middlesborough’s Gestede.

Jay-Roy Grot might not be a household name in the UK but he’s a promising youngster who has come up through the youth ranks at Dutch club NEC Nijmegen.

He has broken into the senior team of the Dutch second tier outfit, making 35 appearances and scoring six goals.

He has also made six appearances for the Dutch Under-19 team, scoring a single goal.

Thomas Christiansen has had success looking for players outside the UK, bringing in Samu Saiz from second-tier Spanish club Huesca in the summer.

Saiz has already starred in the Leeds team with a hat-trick on his debut in the Carabao Cup, and a goal in the Championship against Sunderland on Saturday.

Fans will be hoping that Grot is another gem from Europe’s lower divisions, although it’s likely he’ll be one for the future, as opposed to a Wood replacement.

In other Leeds news, the Whites are close to sealing a midfielder transfer as he heads for a medical.
