Leeds United and Newcastle United have something of a history of having players turn out for both clubs – even if it via convoluted means.
Through they years, the likes of James Milner, Lee Bowyer, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith have all gone on to St James’ Park after leaving Elland Road, while more recently Vurnon Anita made the move in reverse after leaving the Magpies on a free transfer last year.
This summer certainly promises to be a big one for the Whites as they look to improve upon a bitterly disappointing season, which has left them fighting for a top half finish as opposed to the play off spot that they had hoped for.
Manager Paul Heckingbottom and director of football Victor Orta will no doubt have already identified where the main issues lie in the squad – and quite frankly there are problems all through the first team.
One area where the Whites have struggled, primarily due to injury, has been centre back, with youngsters Paudie O’Connor and Hugo Diaz both being handed playing time as a result of absences – and while the academy graduates have done well, there is certainly a case for a new recruit.
Step forward Newcastle’s Australian powerhouse Curtis Good, who will be available on a free transfer this summer after he confirmed his exit plans ahead of his contract expiring to Fox Sports.
With an ambition to remain in the UK, but to prove himself at a top level, Elland Road could be the perfect place for the 25-year-old to reignite his career after being blighted by injuries, limiting him to just two appearances for Newcastle – although plenty for for their under-23 side.
Back to full fitness and now playing numerous games in a week for Newcastle’s reserves, he would be ideal for Leeds this summer, bringing in experienced talent without spending a penny – leaving the cash in the bank to invest elsewhere in a squad which needs strengthening.
