Leeds on verge of club-record deal as Bielsa closes in on Elland Road job – report
Marcelo Bielsa is on the brink of accepting the Leeds manager job, according to a report.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that talks have progressed well and that discussions are in the “last throes” as he looks increasingly likely to take the Elland Road job.
The report claims that a salary package has already been agreed, which would make Bielsa the highest paid manager in club history.
He had also wanted assurances that he would be free to implement his philosophy and it looks like the two parties are very close to reaching a final agreement.
Sources have told the Yorkshire Evening Post that talks are in the “final mile”.

Leeds United fans have been made to wait over their new manager but if, as it looks extremely likely now, the club lands Bielsa, they won’t mind one bit. Interestingly, it appears that all the talk has been of a footballing nature, with money agreed. Bielsa is known for doing things his way and the 62-year-old is still obviously dead set on implementing his unique strategy at Elland Road. That could well be tough for the players. It’s already been reported that they’ll be expected to report back early for pre-season if Bielsa takes over, and he’s known for picking a core group of players and sticking with them through the season. That philosophy could be tested in the gruelling Championship, but it will be fascinating to see if he can worm his old magic. Bielsa might have lost some of his appeal after failures at Lille and Lazio, but he’ll have a chance to become a hero at Elland Road if and when he finally accepts the job.
