Leeds 27y/o one of many Leeds stars under threat as Heck reveals his perfect transfer plans
As the final whistle drew an end to Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday afternoon, the thoughts of fans and staff alike would have turned immediately to the summer.
The Whites can finally put to bed what has been a bitterly disappointing campaign which saw their early hopes of a top six finish, building on last year’s seventh place, wiped away by their disastrous run of form, the three points against Ian Holloway’s side helping them to finish 13th 12 months on.
After a transfer window last summer which, in hindsight, was more quantity over quality, there need to be changes made to the way the club source their new recruits to bring into Elland Road – and it seems as though Paul Heckingbottom has already got a clear idea of his perfect transfer plans.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “I want a better balance to the squad, a better balance in terms of having players who can affect the game when we’ve not got the ball and affect the game through physicality.
“We’ve got talent in there and good technicians but we need to get the balance of the squad right so we’re equipped for every game in the Championship.”

On the surface, it appears as though the manager is happy with his options when attacking, meaning the likes of Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski are under no threat of being axed – although could still be sold for a high enough price tag – but there are a number of names who should shudder at his words, namely the defensive midfielders.
It sounds like Heckingbottom wants much more from those entrusted with duties of winning the ball back and that does not bode well for the likes of 27-year-old Eunan O’Kane, 19-year-old Ronaldo Vieira or 29-year-old Vurnon Anita, who have all played in that sort of role.
The midfield trio will not be the only ones who will now consider themselves under threat ahead of the summer, with plenty more in other positions also feeling the noose tighten and with the season now over, they may have missed their last chance to save their skins.
In other Leeds United transfer news, one rarely seen star is a near-certainty to remain at the club this summer.
