Leeds United striker Jay-Roy Grot suffered an injury at the club’s Thorp Arch training ground headquarters today (Friday), it has been confirmed.
The forward, 19, broke down with an ankle problem while playing for Leeds’ Under-23s in their Professional Development League clash against Sheffield Wednesday early this afternoon.
As reported on the official Leeds website’s live blog of the match, Grot limped off after 62 minutes of the clash and was replaced by Alex Machuca.
United were 2-1 ahead at that point of the match through goals from Pawel Cibicki, who had delivered the goods after being demoted from the senior squad.
The Leeds blog does not explain the nature of the injury suffered by Grot although supporters watching a live stream of the match suggested he could have suffered an ankle problem.
Grot’s injury means he will join fellow forward Tyler Roberts on the sidelines and rules him out of Saturday’s Championship clash against Brentford.
The Dutchman has struggled to make an impact for Leeds since joining last summer as part of a massive squad overhaul.
Grot has made 16 senior appearances, most of them as a substitute, but has yet to open his Leeds scoring account.
