Leeds sweating on fitness of key player after defeat v Millwall – reliable journalist

By Danny Wright

Leeds United are sweating over the fitness of Pontus Jansson after he suffered an injury in his side’s 1-0 defeat at Millwall on Saturday, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account that the centre-back had injured his hamstring and that Leeds are now awaiting to see whether it is a serious setback.

Jansson, 26, was forced off the pitch in the latter stages of the Whites’ loss at the New Den, leaving Thomas Christiansen’s side down to 10 men for the final phases as three substitutions had already been made.

The Sweden international is undoubtedly one of the most key players in Christiansen’s squad having been a huge part of helping Leeds reach the top of the Championship table.

Before Saturday’s loss against Millwall, United had not conceded a single goal while Jansson was on the pitch after he missed the opening day 3-2 win over Bolton through suspension.

He has made seven appearances across all competitions so far this term and there’s no question that Christiansen and the Elland Road faithful will hope he is in contention to feature against Burnley in the Carabao Cup next week when Chris Wood plays against Leeds for the first time since leaving in August.

There are also doubts about whether Liam Cooper could be fit for the game after he was forced out of the clash with Millwall, leaving Conor Shaughnessey to stand in while Matthew Pennington continues to recover from his setback.

In other Leeds United news, Eunan O’Kane has delivered a brutally honest verdict on Saturday’s reverse at Millwall.
