Mills: 'Much bigger clubs than Aston Villa' trying to sign Leeds star Phillips
Danny Mills has suggested some of the biggest clubs in world football will be keeping tabs on the progress of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips at the European Championships.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender ruled out a potential move to Manchester United due to their bitter rivalry with Leeds.
Phillips was England’s man-of-the-match in their 1-0 victory over Croatia in their opening Group D game.
He followed it up with a solid display as the Three Lions were held to a 0-0 draw with Scotland on Friday night.
“I always said he’s got the potential to do that,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Realistically, he’s always been known as a holding midfield player but he’s got more than that about him. We’ve seen it on many occasions.

“There aren’t many holding midfield players who can take set-pieces, who can play a pass like he can. He used to play further forward before Bielsa came in and changed his role a little bit.
“It’s not something Leeds fans will be shocked by. But what is very pleasing is he can do it on the biggest stage against the best players. That’s always a sign he’s quite happy to step up to that level.
“At this stage people talk about Champions League experience, playing against the best for several seasons proving week in, week out he can do it.
“The fact he’s done it now, two or three more of these performances then people will be going ‘Hang on a minute, yes.’
“There was talk of maybe Villa a couple of seasons ago, we might be talking about much much bigger clubs than the likes of Aston Villa.
“He’ll never go to Manchester United, that’s for sure.”
