Leeds United employee shares ‘incredible’ Jack Harrison claim after what he’s seen

Noel Whelan has insisted Jack Harrison has slipped seamlessly into the shoes of departed star Raphinha at Leeds United.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old’s performance against Chelsea was one of his best performances for the Yorkshire club.

Harrison scored and laid on another goal for Premier League top scorer Rodrigo as Leeds United recorded a famous 3-0 win over the Blues at Elland Road on Sunday (21 August).

As per WhoScored, only Mohamed Salah (4.3) has made more key passes per 90 minutes than the former New York City star (4).

Harrison has now claimed one goal and three assists in the first three games of the new campaign as his odds of an England call-up tumble.

Raphinha notched 11 goals and three assists in 36 games last term to marshal Leeds United to Premier League safety.

Whelan claimed Harrison has “taken up the mantle” after the Brazillian left for Barcelona.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “There was an opening for someone to take up the mantle after Raphinha left.

“Harrison has taken it and just made that step up to what we know he can do.

“Sunday was one of the best games I’ve seen him play. From the word go, to the end of the game.

“He showed real quality, not just on the ball but off the ball as well. He’s finally bringing the quality in the areas of the pitch where it matters.

“Anyone could have got man of the match for that performance, but Harrison was more than deserving.

“Rodrigo is another. He’s been given the captain’s armband and it’s just brought out that responsibility and led to some great performances.”
