Leeds United employee suggests new role for Jack Harrison after update – ‘we’re crying out for it’

Noel Whelan has backed Jack Harrison to take up a new role on the right-hand side for Leeds United this season after the signing of Luis Sinisterra.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old could find himself on the bench more often in 2022-23 if he cannot adapt his game.

Sinisterra joined Leeds United from Feyenoord last week (7 July) and will provide competition for places on the left-hand side of Jesse Marsch’s attack.

The Colombia international’s goal involvements during the 2021-22 campaign dwarf Harrison’s numbers in the Premier League.

Sinisterra managed 23 goals in all competitions – while the former Man City man contributed just 10 strikes.

Whelan insisted playing on both flanks will be a valuable quality for Jesse Marsch as he attempts to install a fluid philosophy at the Elland Road club.

“Both Sinisterra and Harrison could swap over and play on that right-hand side,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Nowadays when you’re looking at a wide player, you’ve got to be able to play on both sides.

“There’s a case for Harrison moving over to the right, for sure. How Jesse Marsch will want to play it come the start of the season, we’re not quite sure.

“We’ve not wasted any time in bringing someone in who can really bring more quality to these wide areas in Sinisterra.

“Harrison will be thinking that he’s got a bit of competition. But we need that depth – we were crying out for it last season.

“There will be times where certain players sit out games and come in for other games. It’s that rotational process that every club will be using with the games coming thick and fast.”
