Leeds United employee ‘wowed’ as new Raphinha details emerge

Raphinha’s form will be “vital” to hopes of Premier League survival at Leeds United after his “brilliant” display against Norwich, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old was “thinking two or three steps ahead of everyone else” during yesterday’s clash.

Raphinha assisted Joe Gelhardt’s last-gasp winner as Leeds United claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Norwich at Elland Road on Sunday (13 March).

As per LUFCDATA on Twitter post-match, the Brazil international created four chances, won eight duels, hit the woodwork twice, and made eight ball recoveries.

Raphinha is Leeds United’s top scorer this term with nine Premier League goals – but has netted just once since mid-December.

Whelan suggested the winger was back to his “brilliant” best after “tailing off” in recent weeks.

“Bamford was our main man again but he seemed a bit rusty around the edges,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But wow, Raphinha was a thorn in Norwich’s side all day long. He had that real grit and determination about his game – and most importantly, he was providing real quality.

“He was sharp, winning second balls. Every time he touched the ball he looked dangerous and he was just thinking two or three steps ahead of everyone else on the pitch.

“He was very unlucky not to get his goal, if anyone deserved to score it was him.

“He’s tailed off a bit of late. However, it’s going to be vital to have him playing like that between now and the end of the season. He was brilliant.”

Raphinha is under contract at Leeds United until 2024.

The Whites sit four points clear of the relegation zone following yesterday’s victory.
