Kieran Maguire hails Leeds FFP masterclass as Elland Road pictures emerge
Leeds United are right to invest in infrastructure that doesn’t count towards FFP and could help them challenge for Europe.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively as Leeds install a new playing surface at Elland Road
Hewitt Sportsturf posted images of the hybrid pitch and new drainage system on Twitter on 4th June as they continue their work at the site.
Leeds were forced to pay Tottenham £300,000 for a temporary pitch in January as their surface deteriorated in the winter months.
Maguire claimed Leeds’ new field of play will be a big boost for Marcelo Bielsa’s free-flowing side
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It can’t come soon enough in terms of the playing surface.

“Leeds ran more than any other club last season. The nature of the football that they play is suited to a billiard table surface and times last season it was a turnip-growing surface.
“So they are definitely doing the right thing and hopefully it will increase their efficiency on the pitch.
“If two draws become wins because of this, they are knocking on the door of playing in Europe.
“Also, anything which can be depreciated doesn’t come under FFP, which is a plus. You would classify as a new pitch as under that description.”
Leeds picked up more points (30) on the road last season than they did at Elland Road (29).
Their first home match of 2021-22 is against Everton on 21st August.
